Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 75 years old (inclusive) who have been diagnosed by a doctor with Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA), a lung condition caused by an allergic reaction to a type of mould called Aspergillus
- People whose ABPA diagnosis meets specific diagnostic standards, including having asthma as an underlying condition, a positive skin or blood test reaction to Aspergillus mould, and elevated levels of a particular immune protein in the blood (IgE above 1,000 IU/mL, though lower levels may be considered in some cases), plus at least two of: certain antibodies to Aspergillus in the blood, specific changes visible on lung imaging, or a high count of a type of immune cell called eosinophils
- People who have had severe, long-term asthma for at least 12 months that requires treatment with high-dose inhaled corticosteroids (a type of preventer inhaler) plus at least one other asthma medication, such as a long-acting bronchodilator, a leukotriene inhibitor, theophylline, or regular oral corticosteroids
- People who have been on high-dose inhaled corticosteroids plus at least one other asthma medication for at least 3 months before the first trial visit
- People who have had at least 2 asthma flare-ups in the 12 months before the first trial visit that required treatment with corticosteroids given by injection or taken by mouth (or, for those already on regular oral corticosteroids, a temporary increase in their usual dose for at least 3 days)
- People who weigh more than 40 kg
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a significant lung condition other than asthma and ABPA, such as COPD, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis, or pulmonary fibrosis
- People who have previously had a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to any biological therapy (a type of treatment made from living cells)
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to benralizumab (the medication being studied) or any of its ingredients
- Current smokers, or former smokers who have smoked the equivalent of more than 10 packs of cigarettes per year over their lifetime (a former smoker is defined as someone who stopped smoking at least 6 months before the first trial visit)
- Women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or lactating
- People who are currently enrolled in another clinical intervention trial or a post-approval safety study, unless that other study is observational only (meaning it only collects information without giving any treatment)
