Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are experiencing your first-ever stroke (not a repeat stroke)
- It has been more than 2 weeks since your stroke occurred
- The muscle stiffness in your lower leg/foot is mild to moderate (below grade 3 on a standard medical scale — confirm with trial site)
- Your leg movement and recovery has reached a certain level of function after your stroke (confirm with trial site)
- You are able to stand on your own, or with someone nearby for safety, for at least 2 minutes
- You are able to walk at least 10 meters (about 33 feet) on your own or with someone nearby, with or without a walking aid
- You are able to understand and follow study instructions, as measured by a short memory and thinking test (a score above 23 out of 30)
- Your overall health — both physical and mental — is currently stable
- You are willing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had stroke damage on both sides of the brain
- You have a serious heart condition or a physical problem with your muscles or joints that stops you from walking (for example, a permanently stiff ankle)
- You use a permanent urinary catheter, have pressure sores, or have loss of bladder or bowel control
- You have a condition where you are unaware of or ignore one side of your body (known as "unilateral neglect" — confirm with trial site)
- You have another neurological condition besides stroke that could affect your balance, such as Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, dizziness disorders, or nerve damage, or you have a serious joint or back condition
- You have severe problems with your vision, hearing, or ability to speak
