Who might be able to join this trial:

• You identify as a member of a racial or ethnic minority group as defined by the FDA, such as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander
• You have been diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer, cancer of the junction between the stomach and food pipe, or squamous cell cancer of the food pipe, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
• You have not yet received any systemic (whole-body) treatment for your advanced or spread cancer
• You have at least one measurable tumor that can be tracked on scans
• Your tumor has tested positive for a protein called PD-L1 (existing test results are acceptable)
• You are generally able to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (confirm with trial site what this means for your situation)
• Your liver, kidneys, and other organs are working well enough, based on blood tests taken within the last 14 days before starting treatment
• If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you must be willing to use highly effective birth control during the study and for a set period after treatment ends, and have a negative pregnancy test before starting
• If you are a man who has not had a vasectomy, you must be willing to use highly effective birth control during the study and for a set period after treatment ends

Who may not be able to join:

• Your stomach cancer is a squamous cell, undifferentiated, or other type not listed in this trial
• You have active cancer spread to the lining around the brain, or brain tumours that are causing symptoms or are not stable (those with stable, symptom-free brain tumours who have not needed steroids for at least 4 weeks may still be eligible — confirm with trial site)
• You have a hole or abnormal connection (fistula) between your food pipe and airway or major blood vessel, or a completely blocked food pipe that cannot be treated
• Your stomach or food pipe junction cancer has tested positive for a protein called HER2
• You have an active autoimmune disease (where your immune system attacks your own body), or a history of one that could come back — though some conditions such as controlled Type 1 diabetes, an underactive thyroid managed with medication, controlled celiac disease, or certain skin conditions may still be allowed (confirm with trial site)
• You have had another cancer within the last 2 years, with some exceptions such as certain treated skin cancers, superficial bladder cancer, or early-stage cervical or breast cancer (confirm with trial site)
• You have fluid build-up around your lungs, heart, or in your abdomen that needs to be drained at least once a week or requires water tablets within the 7 days before starting treatment
• You have had significant bleeding from your digestive tract within the last month
• You have had a hole (perforation) or abnormal connection (fistula) in your digestive tract within the last 6 months
• You have a significant blockage in your bowel
• You have been taking high-dose steroid tablets or other medications that suppress your immune system within the last 14 days before starting treatment
