Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of oesophageal (food pipe) cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue or cell sample, that cannot be removed by surgery and is at stage III or IVA
- People who are generally well enough to carry out light activity and care for themselves, as measured by a standard health scoring system (a score of 0 or 1 on the ECOG scale)
- People whose heart, liver, kidneys, and bone marrow are functioning well enough, based on tests done within 2 weeks before joining the trial
- People whose cancer can be measured or assessed using standard imaging guidelines (called RECIST 1.1)
- People who are willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had radiotherapy to the chest, or who have already received chemotherapy for this oesophageal cancer
- People who have had another type of cancer in the last 5 years, except for certain fully treated skin cancers or a very early-stage cervical condition that has been cured
- People with serious ongoing health conditions, such as difficult-to-control high blood pressure, severe heart failure, or an active infection, among others (confirm with trial site)
- People who are known to have had an allergic reaction to any of the study medicines, which include paclitaxel, cisplatin or carboplatin, and a type of immunotherapy drug called a PD-1 antibody
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the 30 days before joining this one
