Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
- You must be between 50 and 85 years old (male or female).
- You must have enough education to be able to complete memory and thinking tests reliably.
- You must fall into one of three groups: (1) no memory or thinking problems, with normal brain scan results; (2) mild memory or thinking problems that may be related to Alzheimer's disease, with specific brain scan findings; or (3) a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's disease, with specific brain scan findings.
- If you are able to have children, you must agree not to try to get pregnant or donate sperm or eggs during the study and for 6 months after, and to use effective birth control (including your partner).
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Anyone who has had a major operation in the last month, or who has a surgery planned during the study.
- Anyone with a known allergy to the radioactive scan injection used in the study, alcohol, or related substances, or who has had serious allergic reactions to similar things.
- Anyone whose memory or thinking problems are caused by something other than Alzheimer's disease.
- Anyone who has had a significant stroke or is thought to have dementia caused by multiple strokes.
- Anyone currently experiencing a significant mental health condition, such as severe depression or schizophrenia.
- Anyone with a history of epilepsy or seizures (except for febrile seizures — fever-related seizures — in childhood).
- Anyone who is unable to have a PET or MRI brain scan, or for whom these scans are not safe (confirm with trial site).
- Anyone with a brain or nerve condition other than Alzheimer's disease that causes memory or thinking problems.
- Anyone the study doctor feels would not be suitable for the study for any other reason.
