Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 64 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis (OA) affecting the joint between the thigh bone and shin bone (the main knee joint)
- People whose knee osteoarthritis has been confirmed by X-ray, showing a moderate level of joint changes (a specific grading system score of 2 or 3)
- People who have already tried at least 2 treatments for osteoarthritis without enough relief, or who were unable to tolerate those treatments
- People whose knee pain has been assessed during the screening period, after stopping any pain medications for a set washout period
- People who are willing to avoid certain medications or treatments that are not permitted during the trial
- Women who have gone through menopause naturally (no period for 12 months or more, with no other explanation) or who have had a surgical procedure that means they cannot become pregnant (such as removal of the ovaries, tubes tied, or hysterectomy)
- Male participants whose partners could become pregnant, and who are not surgically sterilised (vasectomy for at least 6 months before joining the trial), must use condoms with spermicide in addition to their partner's contraception from the start of the trial until 90 days after the last dose
Who may not be able to join:
- People with very severe or end-stage osteoarthritis in the affected knee
- People who have significant structural problems or instability in the affected knee
- People who have had a major injury, surgery, or injection treatment in the affected knee recently
- People with a known history of infection or a tumour in the affected knee, or who currently have an infection at the planned injection site
- People with a known history of inflammatory joint disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis) or conditions where crystals build up in the joints (such as gout)
- People with a serious widespread condition affecting cartilage, bone, or muscles that could affect the trial results
- People with significant widespread pain conditions affecting multiple areas of the body
- People who are taking medications that suppress the immune system, have a significant immune deficiency, or currently have an active infection
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) — a measure of body weight relative to height — above 40
- People taking medications that could interfere with pain measurement or other trial results
- People with known blood clotting disorders, or who take blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications
- People with significant uncontrolled health conditions, or who have notable abnormal findings on screening blood tests or physical examination
