Who might be able to join this trial:

• People with COPD who are on a breathing machine (ventilator) and have been assessed by their medical team as ready to begin the process of coming off it.

• People for whom the ventilator is being removed as part of end-of-life care.

• People for whom clear ultrasound images cannot be obtained even after multiple attempts.
