Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a first or repeat stroke (either a blocked blood vessel or a bleed in the brain), confirmed by a brain scan
- People who are currently staying in hospital at an acute stroke unit
- People whose stroke has been assessed as mild to moderate in severity, based on a standard medical scoring tool called the NIHSS (with a total score below 16)
- People who have weakness on one side of the body after stroke, where the affected arm and/or leg has some movement but is significantly weakened (scoring 1–3 on the NIHSS motor items)
- People with a moderate level of disability after stroke, as measured by a standard scale called the modified Rankin Scale (scoring between 2 and 4)

Who may not be able to join:
- People whose stroke symptoms were temporary and fully resolved (known as a transient ischaemic attack or TIA)
- People whose brain bleed occurred between the brain and the skull (subdural or epidural haemorrhage)
- People whose stroke was caused by a brain tumour or a head injury
- People with a pre-existing neurological, bone and joint, muscle, rheumatic, or inner-ear/balance condition that could affect participation — such as epilepsy or a spinal injury
- People with a mental health condition such as depression or schizophrenia
- People with vision or hearing problems that cannot be adequately corrected with glasses or hearing aids
