Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 35 or above with no other weight-related health conditions, OR your BMI is 30 or above and you also have at least one health condition linked to obesity, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or high cholesterol
  • A pre-surgery health check has found you are healthy enough to have keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery under general anesthesia
  • You are willing to make lifestyle changes after the procedure, such as changes to your diet, and to attend follow-up appointments
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are younger than 18 or older than 60 years of age
  • You are unwilling or unable to make the required lifestyle changes after the procedure
  • Your overall health means surgery is considered too high a risk (confirm with trial site)
  • You have previously received radiotherapy or chemotherapy as part of cancer treatment
  • You have an active substance use disorder or a severe, uncontrolled mental health condition that could affect your ability to follow the study plan, such as active psychosis or severe suicidal thoughts
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
  • You have a thyroid condition, such as an underactive or overactive thyroid, that has not yet been treated
