Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be 18 years old or older.
- You must have been diagnosed with a stroke (either a blocked blood vessel or a bleeding stroke in the brain).
- You must have been admitted to a general hospital ward (such as an Internal Medicine unit) at a regional hospital that does not have a specialist stroke unit.
Who may not be able to join:
- You cannot join if you were admitted to the hospital for a different reason and then had a stroke while already in the hospital.
- You cannot join if you have had or need any invasive surgical procedures on your brain or nervous system.
- You cannot join if you required a procedure to remove a blood clot (such as a thrombectomy) and then had to be transferred to another hospital where you stayed for more than 48 hours.
- You cannot join if your level of consciousness has declined to the point where you are unable to complete a swallowing assessment test.
- You cannot join if the nurses or nursing assistants caring for you have more than 4 weeks of work experience in a specialist stroke unit within the last 12 months.
