Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with an acute stroke (either a blocked-blood-vessel type or a bleeding type), confirmed by brain scans such as a CT or MRI, within 24 hours of when symptoms started or when the person was last seen to be well
- People for whom a procedure to mechanically remove a blood clot has been ruled out by their treating doctors, based on current medical guidelines
- People admitted to one of the participating hospitals: Hospital de Riotinto, Hospital San Juan de Dios del Aljarafe, or Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena
- People, or their legal representative, who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who had significant disability before their stroke, specifically a score of 4 or higher on a standard disability scale called the modified Rankin Scale (confirm with trial site)
- People whose overall health condition — unrelated to the stroke — means their life expectancy is estimated at less than 6 months
- People who are unlikely to be able to complete the required follow-up visits, due to where they live, their social situation, or their health condition
- People who are already taking part in another clinical trial that could affect this study's results
- People, or their legal representative, who decline to sign the consent form
