Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged between 30 and 70 years old who have been diagnosed by a doctor with moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis (a condition where the joint wears down over time) and who experience knee pain
- People for whom the cost of joint injections or a nerve-treatment procedure called radiofrequency ablation is not affordable
- People who have already tried two different pain relief tablets without enough improvement, and have completed at least 6 weeks of physiotherapy without enough relief
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose knee pain improved after physiotherapy
- People who have been assessed by a bone and joint surgeon and identified as needing surgery for a knee problem other than osteoarthritis
- People who are pregnant
- People who take blood-thinning medication that cannot be safely stopped
- People with a history of significant knee injury, nerve-related conditions, hormone or metabolic conditions such as diabetes, knee tumours, or inflammatory types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People who have had an injection directly into the knee joint within the past 6 months
- People whose scans show torn tendons, inflamed fluid sacs around the knee (bursitis), or calcium deposits in the tendons around the knee
