Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who are currently admitted to hospital with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain)
- People whose stroke severity, measured by a standard medical scale called the NIHSS, scored 10 or higher at the time of admission
- People who, before this stroke, had little to no disability, as measured by a standard scale called the modified Rankin Scale (a score of 0–2)
- People who currently have a moderate to moderately severe level of disability as a result of the stroke, as measured by the same scale (a score of 3–5)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently having, or are expected to have, end-of-life care discussions
- People for whom surgery is currently planned
- People who already had significant disability before this stroke (a modified Rankin Scale score of 3–5 prior to the stroke)
- People with a bone, muscle, joint, or skin injury that would make it unsafe to stand, move around, or use mobility equipment
- People with heart or breathing conditions that are not currently under control
- People with seizures that are active or not currently under control
- People in isolation conditions that prevent movement outside of their hospital room
- People whose body weight exceeds the safe weight limit of the mobility equipment used in the trial
