Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 21 years of age or older
- You have had a stroke confirmed by a brain scan (such as an MRI or CT) within the last 40 days
- You have ongoing weakness on one side of your body that is affecting how well you can use one of your arms
- You are able to take part in all parts of the study, including a check-in appointment one year after joining
- You scored below a certain threshold on a short memory and thinking test (confirm with trial site)
- You are able to follow simple two-step instructions
- You scored above 25 on a standard thinking and memory assessment called the MoCA
- You did not have any injury or pre-existing condition affecting your arm before your stroke
Who may not be able to join:
- You are not able to give your own consent to take part in the study
- You have another ongoing condition that significantly affects your nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, ALS, or dementia requiring medication
- Your mental state has changed noticeably in the 72 hours before being enrolled in the study
- You have active psychosis, have experienced psychosis in the past two years, or have a current or past history of substance misuse
- You have severe loss of sensation in your affected arm (confirm with trial site)
- You have significant coordination problems in your affected arm beyond what would be expected from your weakness alone (confirm with trial site)
- You are not expected to survive for 12 months due to another illness
- You are currently pregnant
- You have severe difficulty with language and communication as a result of your stroke
- You have recently received Botox injections or are expected to receive them during the study period
