Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 30 and 70 years old who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis that has not responded well to treatment, and who are experiencing knee pain
- People for whom the cost of joint injections is a barrier to receiving them
- People who have already tried at least 2 different oral pain medications without sufficient relief, and have completed 6 weeks of physical therapy without sufficient relief
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose knee pain improved after physiotherapy
- People who have been assessed by an orthopaedic surgeon and identified as needing surgery for a knee condition other than osteoarthritis
- People who are pregnant
- People who are taking blood-thinning medication that cannot safely be stopped
- People with a history of serious knee injury, neurological conditions, hormone-related conditions such as diabetes, knee tumours, or inflammatory forms of arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
- People who have had a joint injection into the knee within the past 6 months
- People who have imaging results showing tendon tears, bursa inflammation, or calcium deposits in the tendons around the knee
