Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been formally diagnosed with schizophrenia according to standard international diagnostic guidelines (ICD-10).
- People who are male or female, aged between 18 and 55 years, with stable basic health signs such as heart rate and blood pressure.
- People who are currently experiencing noticeable psychotic symptoms that have been rated as moderate or severe using a recognised symptom assessment scale.
- People who have moderate or severe difficulties with everyday social activities and functioning, as measured by a recognised assessment scale.
- People who have already tried at least two different antipsychotic medications (from different drug families), each taken at a proper dose for more than 6 weeks continuously, with good adherence to those treatments.
- People who have been on a stable antipsychotic medication plan for at least one month before entering the trial.
- People who are able and willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part.
- People who are able to cooperate with all scheduled check-ins and follow-up appointments throughout the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have been diagnosed with any psychiatric condition other than schizophrenia.
- People who have a severe personality disorder.
- People who have a history of serious neurological conditions, such as epileptic seizures or bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).
- People who have known structural abnormalities in the brain.
- People who have previously undergone a type of brain surgery called stereotactic neurosurgery.
- People for whom general anaesthesia or stereotactic neurosurgery would be medically unsuitable.
- People who have any current or expected medical, psychological, social, family support, or location-related circumstances that could affect their safety or their ability to fully participate in the trial (confirm with trial site).
