Who might be able to join this trial:

For generally healthy adults without knee problems:

  • People aged between 18 and 65 years
  • People who weigh less than 300 lbs
  • People with a BMI under 40

For people with knee osteoarthritis:

  • People aged between 30 and 85 years
  • People who have been medically diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the knee (specifically in the kneecap joint and/or the main knee joint)
  • People who experience pain of 4 or more out of 10 during everyday activities
  • People who weigh less than 300 lbs
  • People with a BMI under 40
  • People able to walk for 6 minutes without another person helping them (a walking aid such as a cane or walker is allowed)
  • People able to go up and down ramps and stairs, with or without holding a handrail

Who may not be able to join:

For generally healthy adults without knee problems:

  • People who are pregnant (based on self-report)
  • People with a significant nerve or muscle condition that could interfere with the study
  • People unable to walk for 20 minutes
  • People with a history of heart, balance, or vision conditions that could interfere with the study
  • People with thinking or memory difficulties that would affect their ability to give consent or follow simple instructions (assessed using a standard cognitive screening test)
  • People with a known allergy to medical-grade tape

For people with knee osteoarthritis:

  • People who are pregnant (based on self-report)
  • People who have had a broken bone in their leg or foot within the last 6 months
  • People with significantly restricted knee movement
  • People with a significant neurological condition (such as stroke) or heart condition that affects their ability to walk
  • People whose doctor has advised them not to walk or exercise
  • People with uncontrolled high blood pressure or uncontrolled diabetes
  • People currently using opioid pain medications
  • People with thinking or memory difficulties, or significant vision impairment, that would affect their ability to give consent or follow simple instructions (assessed using a standard cognitive screening test)
  • People with a known allergy to medical-grade tape
