Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease affecting the lower part of the small intestine (called the terminal ileum) or the area where the small and large intestines meet, with either an inflammatory or narrowing type of Crohn's disease, confirmed by scans or during surgery
  • You are scheduled to have your first surgery to remove part of your small intestine and the beginning of your large intestine (called an ileocolic resection)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your Crohn's disease has caused an abscess (a pocket of infection) or a complex abnormal tunnel/connection between organs that requires more complicated surgery
  • You have already had this type of bowel surgery before
  • You have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease affecting mainly the large intestine (colon)
  • You are pregnant
  • You are not able to give your own consent to take part in the trial
  • You need a stoma (a surgically created opening on your abdomen to redirect waste into a bag) before being enrolled into the trial
  • There is a medical reason why a specific ultrasound technique used during surgery (called IOUS) cannot be used on you (confirm with trial site)
