Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 80 years of age.
- People who have been diagnosed with an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain).
- People who are enrolled within 1 week of when their stroke symptoms started, or within 1 week of when they were last known to be well if the exact symptom start time is unknown.
- People for whom the required baseline medical and brain imaging assessments are available as specified by the study.
- People who have given written consent to participate, either personally or through a legally authorised representative.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose baseline brain scans show bleeding in the brain, abnormal blood vessels, a brain aneurysm, a brain abscess, a brain tumour, or any other non-stroke brain condition.
- People who already had notable difficulty with daily activities before their stroke (a modified Rankin Scale score of 2 or higher before the stroke — confirm with trial site if this term is unfamiliar).
- People whose life expectancy is 6 months or less.
- People who are unable to tolerate an MRI scan.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are currently participating in another clinical study, or who took part in another clinical study within the 3 months before giving consent, where that involvement may interfere with this trial.
- People who have a significant narrowing (50% or more) of an artery in the neck on the same side as the stroke.
- People whose stroke is clearly caused by a heart condition, such as atrial fibrillation, a recent heart attack, significant heart valve disease, a weakened and enlarged heart, heart valve infection, certain heart conduction problems, or a very slow heart rate (below 50 beats per minute).
- People who have received, or are planned to receive, a procedure to physically remove or treat the clot in a blood vessel (endovascular treatment) following the stroke.
- People whose stroke is caused by another identified condition, such as moyamoya disease, a torn artery wall (arterial dissection), or inflammation of the blood vessels (vasculitis).
