Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are between 40 and 60 years old, of any gender
  • People who have had pain in one knee and a grinding or crackling sensation in that knee for at least 6 months, particularly when going up or down stairs or slopes
  • People whose knee X-rays show a certain level of joint damage (grade 2 or higher on a standard medical scale used to measure knee arthritis)
  • People who have been referred to the trial by an orthopaedic doctor

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had surgery on a hip or knee joint in the last three months

  • People who have had a type of bone surgery on the shin bone (called tibial osteotomy)
  • People who use orthopaedic braces or supports and also have a form of arthritis that affects the whole body
  • People who have a history of a knee fracture or other knee injury
  • People who have a muscle disease or a condition affecting the nervous system that impacts how the legs and lower body function
