Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are male or female and are at least 6 years old at the time of signing the consent forms
- People who have been diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia (FA), confirmed by both their symptoms and a genetic test showing a specific change in the frataxin gene
- People whose FA symptoms first appeared at age 25 or younger
- People who have confirmed thickening of the heart's left ventricle wall, along with an abnormal measurement of the left ventricle's weight relative to body size
- People whose heart is still pumping at least 30% of its blood with each beat (a measure of how well the heart is working)
- People whose level of antibodies against a specific virus used in the treatment is below a certain limit set by the study (confirm with trial site for the exact level)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another type of heart muscle disease that is also contributing to heart failure
- People who are currently receiving medication through a drip to help the heart pump, or who have a mechanical device implanted to help the heart pump
- People for whom an MRI scan of the heart is not safe or suitable
- People who have previously had an organ transplant
- People who have previously received any gene therapy or cell therapy treatment
- People with poorly managed diabetes, based on a specific blood sugar measurement (HbA1c of 8% or higher)
- People who currently have an active blood cancer or solid organ cancer
