Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older, of any gender, whether or not they have type 2 diabetes or related eye problems, who are able to keep their head still during a specialised eye scan called iris OCTA
  • People who are willing to take part and have signed a written consent form
  • People who have not had any surgery inside the eye being studied (such as cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, or retinal surgery)
  • People who have been in generally good health recently — no serious illness in the past 3 months (such as a heart attack, stroke, or diabetic emergency), and liver and kidney function within an acceptable range as defined by the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose eye being studied has other eye conditions beyond those allowed by the trial (such as uveitis, blocked retinal veins, or severe short-sightedness with related eye damage), or who have had certain eye treatments in the past 6 months (such as retinal laser treatment or injections into the eye)
  • People who have type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes, or other specific types of diabetes; those with autoimmune conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus) or blood disorders (such as leukaemia or aplastic anaemia); and those who have taken certain medications affecting blood flow in the eye within the past 3 months and are unable to stop taking them
  • People with significant uncontrolled head tremors that would prevent a clear eye scan from being taken, or those with mental health conditions or cognitive difficulties that would make it hard to understand or cooperate with the examination
