Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who previously took part in one of these specific parent studies: 2000/0329; 2000/0196; 2004/0205; 2000/0024; 2006/0200; 2006/0508; or 2006/0210
  • People who have a working pancreatic islet transplant (the transplanted tissue is still functioning and has not failed) and are still taking anti-rejection medication
  • People willing to use an approved form of contraception during the study and for 4 months after it ends
  • People able to sign a written consent form to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • Women who are pregnant, currently breastfeeding, or unwilling to use effective contraception for the full study period and 4 months afterward (acceptable methods include the pill, Norplant®, Depo-Provera®, or barrier devices used with spermicide — condoms used alone are not considered acceptable)
  • Men who plan to try to father a child during the study or within 4 months of finishing, or who are unwilling to use effective contraception during that time
  • People with any other medical condition that the trial doctor believes would make participation unsafe
