Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have rectal cancer that has been assessed by MRI scan and meets at least one of these features: the tumour has grown significantly into or beyond the rectal wall, cancer has spread into nearby blood or lymph vessels as seen on MRI, cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes in a specific way, or the tumour is close to or touching the surgical margin as seen on MRI.
- People who have had a biopsy confirming a specific type of rectal cancer called adenocarcinoma, located in an area of the rectum identified by imaging scans.
- People whose doctors have determined they need treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy before surgery, either together or in a planned sequence.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease).
- People who have medical reasons why they cannot have an MRI scan, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy.
- People whose follow-up MRI scan after radiotherapy was done more than 10 weeks after finishing that radiotherapy.
- People who have had another cancer within the past 5 years where the chance of that cancer returning is greater than 5% (confirm with trial site).
