Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 years or older
  • People who have non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem) that is occasional, ongoing, or permanent, and has been confirmed by a heart tracing test (ECG)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a significant heart valve problem, including: a narrowed mitral valve (opening smaller than 2cm²), a leaking mitral valve (severe, grade 3 or 4), a leaking aortic valve (severe, grade 3 or 4), a leaking tricuspid valve (severe, grade 3 or 4), a narrowed aortic valve (opening smaller than 1.5cm²), or an artificial mechanical heart valve
  • People whose irregular heartbeat is caused by a short-term or treatable condition, such as an overactive thyroid, acute heart lining inflammation, infection, or another systemic illness
  • People who have a medical reason why they cannot safely take long-term blood-thinning medication
  • People who do not have French social security coverage
  • People with a serious psychiatric history
  • People for whom regular follow-up appointments would not be possible
