Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (a type of pancreatic cancer) that has spread to other parts of the body, confirmed by tissue sample and/or imaging scans — those without a tissue-confirmed diagnosis must have a biopsy done before starting treatment
- People who are planned to receive one of two specific chemotherapy combinations (called FOLFIRINOX or gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel) as their first treatment, either as standard care or as part of another clinical trial
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation, as measured by a standard medical fitness scale (ECOG score of 0 or 1)
- People whose heart, liver, kidneys, and other organs are working well enough (confirm with trial site)
- People whose doctor estimates they have a life expectancy of more than 90 days
- People who are able to understand and agree to participate in the study
- People who have at least one tumour that can be measured on a scan using standard criteria
- People who have a tumour that a specialist radiologist considers safe to take a needle biopsy from, with at least 3 tissue samples safely obtainable using CT or ultrasound guidance
- People who are well enough to safely undergo a tumour biopsy, as assessed by the trial doctor
- People who are able to lie flat on their back for more than 60 minutes
- (For a specific group in this trial) People who have a previously collected tumour tissue sample available, from either a past biopsy or surgical removal of the tumour
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body or lymph nodes — those with borderline or locally advanced pancreatic cancer that has not spread are not eligible
- People who have already received chemotherapy or any other cancer treatment for advanced or metastatic disease (though people who had chemotherapy after surgery for early-stage disease may still be eligible)
- People who are currently receiving any cancer treatment
- People who the trial doctor considers not well enough to safely receive combination chemotherapy
- People who have cancer that has spread to the brain
- People who are pregnant (a positive pregnancy test is an exclusion)
- People who the trial doctor considers unsafe to include in the study for any medical or personal reason
- People who would not be able to attend study visits or complete follow-up requirements
