Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with rectal cancer that has been confirmed by a tissue biopsy (adenocarcinoma type)
- People whose tumour is located in the lower part of the rectum (below a certain point in the abdomen)
- People whose rectal cancer is considered treatable with the goal of removing all the cancer through surgery
- People who have no signs that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body

- People whose tumour has grown into nearby organs (classified as T4b)
- People with very early-stage tumours (T1) that could be removed using a smaller, local procedure
- People who need pre-surgery treatment (neoadjuvant therapy) but choose not to have it
- People whose rectal cancer has come back after previous treatment
- People who have been diagnosed with another invasive cancer within the past 5 years
- People who need emergency surgery due to a blocked or perforated bowel
- People who have previously had surgery on the colon or rectum
- People who already have difficulty controlling their bowel movements (fecal incontinence)
- People with a history of inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- People with serious health conditions that make general anaesthesia unsafe (classified as ASA class 4 or 5) (confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a history of mental health disorders
