Who might be able to join this trial:
Main study:
- Adults aged 18 to 70 years who describe their race as Black.
- People who have signs or evidence suggesting a condition called primary aldosteronism (for example, high blood pressure, low potassium levels, a known adrenal gland nodule, or certain abnormal blood test results).
- People who are able and willing to return to the NIH (National Institutes of Health) for follow-up appointments.
Blood (DNA) only study — for family members:
- Relatives of main study participants who are aged 7 or older, where the family has a history of high blood pressure or adrenal tumours, or where a genetic mutation has been found in the main study participant.
Who may not be able to join:
Main study:
- People over the age of 70.
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People whose health condition would make certain required tests or procedures unsafe — for example, those with severe heart failure or advanced kidney disease (confirm with trial site).
- People considered to have a high surgical risk based on certain medical scoring systems (confirm with trial site).
- People who currently have a substance use disorder, a psychiatric condition, or any other condition that investigators believe would affect their ability to safely participate.
- People already known to have an inherited syndrome causing hormone overproduction, such as Carney complex, McCune-Albright syndrome, or MEN-1.
- People unwilling or unable to follow the study procedures.
Blood (DNA) only study:
- Family members who are unwilling or unable to provide a blood sample for DNA testing.
