Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are able to give their own informed consent to take part
- People of any race or ethnicity
- People who are fluent in both written and spoken English
- People whose health history and physical examination do not reveal any of the exclusion conditions listed below
- People who are 18 years of age or older
For people with higher blood pressure when standing:
- People whose blood pressure when standing is at least 10 mmHg higher than when lying down
- People diagnosed with Stage 1 high blood pressure (a mild form of high blood pressure) who do not have other ongoing health conditions
For healthy people without higher blood pressure when standing:
- People whose blood pressure does not change significantly when moving from lying down to standing (within 5 mmHg either way)
- People who are a similar gender, age, and body size (within 10%) to participants with elevated standing blood pressure
- People who are free from any short-term or long-term medical conditions
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- People who are prisoners, living in an institution, or otherwise unable to give their own consent
- People with ongoing health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, neuromuscular disease, or cancer (Stage 1 high blood pressure is the only exception)
- People who experience a significant drop in blood pressure when standing up, or who have a history of fainting
- People who currently smoke
- People with a history of blood clots
