Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have no signs of dementia or mild memory impairment, based on standard memory and thinking tests
- You are able to give your own consent to participate and can complete memory and mood tests on a computer
- You have at least an 8th grade education or can read at that level
- You are willing to be randomly assigned to either the real treatment or a "sham" (inactive) version of the treatment
- You are able to commit 12 weeks to the treatment, plus extra time for testing before and after
- You have been on the same doses of your main medications for at least two months and plan to keep taking them during the study (including any memory-related medications your doctor may have prescribed)
- You are able to carry out your normal day-to-day activities without significant difficulty
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had a major stroke, significant brain condition, or surgery on the brain (such as multiple sclerosis, seizures, or moderate traumatic brain injury) — note that Parkinson's disease may be an exception (confirm with trial site)
- You have an unstable or poorly controlled serious medical condition, such as certain metabolic disorders, HIV, or moderate to severe kidney or liver disease
- You have a current or recent history (within the past 6 months) of serious mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, active psychosis, bipolar disorder, a current major depressive episode, or alcohol or substance misuse
- You are currently taking antipsychotic medications, strong sedatives, or other medications that block a brain chemical called acetylcholine, as these could affect memory
- You have used certain light-sensitive medications (such as steroids or retin-A) within 15 days of starting the study
- You have been diagnosed with active cancer
- You have significant difficulties with movement or vision that would prevent you from using a computer or seeing colors
- You have taken part in a brain training study in the last 3 months, or are currently involved in another study involving brain training or a similar treatment
- You are unable to have a brain scan (MRI) due to claustrophobia or having certain metal implants in your body, such as a pacemaker, heart valve, brain aneurysm clips, braces, non-removable body jewelry, or metal fragments
