- You started doing endurance sports (triathlon, cycling, distance running of 1500 metres or longer, or rowing) before age 30, compete at a regional, national, or international level, are between 45 and 70 years old, and train more than 10 hours per week (if you cycle or do triathlon) or more than 6 hours per week (if you run or row)

- You are a non-athlete who does less than 3 hours of sport per week in total, or only participates in low-intensity sports such as billiards, darts, or bowling (confirm with trial site for how you were recruited)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a significant history of smoking (more than 5 pack-years, which means roughly smoking one pack a day for 5 years or equivalent)
- You have a history of diabetes
- You have been diagnosed with a heart or lung condition before joining the trial
- You are currently taking medication to treat high blood pressure or high cholesterol
