For people with chronic low back pain:
- People aged 18 to 75 years old
- People who are right-handed
- People who have had low back pain for more than 6 months
- People whose pain levels average at least 4 out of 10 on a pain scale over the two weeks before joining

For healthy participants (people without chronic pain):

- People with a history of heart, breathing, or nervous system conditions that could interfere with the study or create health risks (for example, asthma or claustrophobia)
- People with any reason they cannot safely have an MRI scan (for example, a cardiac pacemaker, metal implants, fear of enclosed spaces, or pregnancy)
For healthy participants:
- People who have any type of pain, whether short-term or long-term
- People with a history of heart, breathing, or nervous system conditions that the trial investigator determines could create health risks or prevent safe participation (for example, asthma or claustrophobia)
- People with any reason they cannot safely have an MRI scan (for example, a cardiac pacemaker, metal implants, fear of enclosed spaces, or pregnancy)
