Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 22 or older.
- People who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), including any type — occasional, ongoing, or continuous.
- People who have at least one of the following heart or health risk factors: high blood pressure; diabetes; a history of stroke; significant blockages in the heart's arteries (confirmed by scans, stress tests, or previous heart procedures); a form of chronic kidney disease (not including polycystic kidney disease) where the kidneys are not working at full capacity; a 10-year cardiovascular disease risk score of 15% or higher based on a standard risk calculator called the Framingham risk score; or being aged 75 or older.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea and are regularly using a CPAP machine (a breathing device used during sleep).
- People whose atrial fibrillation is linked to certain heart valve problems, specifically moderate or severe narrowing of the mitral valve, or the presence of a mechanical heart valve.
- People who have a permanent pacemaker already implanted.
- People whose other medical conditions mean their life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year.
- People who are not able to give their own consent to participate in research.
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
