Who might be able to join this trial:
- Healthy full-term newborn babies in the postnatal ward who are within the first 72 hours of life
- Full-term or premature newborn babies (including those with restricted growth before birth) who have been admitted to the neonatal unit
- Babies whose parents or guardians have given written consent (given before enrolment for postnatal ward babies, or after admission for neonatal unit babies)
Who may not be able to join:
- Babies diagnosed before or after birth with a serious birth defect or abnormality
- Babies who are considered to have no realistic chance of survival
- Babies who are more than 12 hours old at the time of enrolment
- Babies with very delicate or fragile skin that would not allow a monitoring probe to be placed on the skin
