- People who have liver cirrhosis and/or liver cancer (hepatoma)
- People aged between 20 and 85 years old who have had endoscopic treatment where gastric varices (enlarged veins in the stomach) were present, either without esophageal varices or where the gastric varices were larger than the esophageal varices
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a serious, end-stage illness affecting a major organ, such as heart failure, kidney failure, or severe chronic lung disease (COPD)
- People who have recently taken antibiotics
- People who are suspected of having an active infection
