Who might be able to join this trial:
Group A:
- People aged 30 or older who are able to agree to take part in the study
- People attending a colonoscopy through the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (for example, following a positive stool test, a bowel scope conversion, or as part of ongoing monitoring)
- People attending a colonoscopy through standard NHS care for reasons such as low iron levels, changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, rectal bleeding, planned removal of bowel polyps, a family history of bowel cancer, abnormal scan results, or follow-up after bowel cancer treatment
Group B (COLO-SPEED):
- People aged 18 or older who are attending for a colonoscopy and are able to agree to take part
- People who are patients at a centre located in the North of England
Who may not be able to join:
Group A:
- People who are not able to give informed consent to take part
- People who have a known inherited condition causing many bowel polyps (such as familial polyposis)
- People who have previously had their entire large bowel removed
- People who have a known narrowing in the large bowel that would prevent a full colonoscopy from being completed
- People attending for a planned procedure other than polyp removal, such as having a bowel stent inserted
- People attending to check on the activity of known inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or for IBD-related monitoring
- People already taking part in another type of interventional clinical trial aimed at preventing bowel cancer
Group B (COLO-SPEED):
- People who are not able to give informed consent to take part
- People who are not patients at a centre in the North of England that is supported by the COLO-SPEED study infrastructure
