For patients with MSA:
- People who have been diagnosed with "possible" or "probable" Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), based on recognised medical guidelines
- People who are older than 30 years of age
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form
- People who are covered by the national health system
For comparison (control) participants:
- People who do not have any neurological (brain or nerve) condition
- People who are older than 30 years of age
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form
- People who are covered by the national health system
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have diabetes
- People currently taking corticosteroids, oestrogen, atypical antipsychotic medications, or antiretroviral medications
- People who are under legal guardianship
- People who are unable to give their own consent
- People who have any other neurological (brain or nerve) condition
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who score 21 or below on a standard memory and thinking test called the MoCA
- People who have any medical reason why they cannot safely have an MRI scan
