Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form agreeing to participate
- People who have been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux), shown by at least weekly heartburn and/or regurgitation that has been ongoing for at least 3 months before joining, with a symptom history of at least 6 months
- People whose acid reflux symptoms have previously improved with acid-reducing medications called proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole or similar)
- People who have had a 24-hour test measuring acid and fluid movement in the food pipe (oesophagus), with results confirming abnormal acid reflux according to established medical guidelines
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have had previous surgery on the abdomen or chest (though removal of the appendix or gallbladder may be acceptable, as long as it did not cause scarring or adhesions in the abdominal area — confirm with trial site)
- People who regularly take anti-inflammatory pain medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen (NSAIDs); occasional use may be permitted if it was stopped at least 2 weeks before joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
- People with a current or past history of cancer of any kind or location, unless it was a skin cancer that was successfully treated before joining the trial
- People with serious health conditions that could make it difficult to safely complete the trial or interpret the results, including severe heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe neurological conditions, advanced liver disease, or severe depression or other serious psychological conditions
- People who later choose to withdraw from the trial may do so at any time by informing the trial site
