Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in one or both wrists, confirmed by both a physical exam and a nerve conduction test (a test that measures how well electrical signals travel through the nerves), performed within the past year
• People whose carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms have been present for at least 6 weeks
• People who are 18 years of age or older

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have previously had carpal tunnel release surgery on the affected wrist or hand
• People who have received a corticosteroid (steroid) injection in the affected wrist or hand within the past 6 months
• People whose carpal tunnel syndrome is considered severe, shown by constant pain in the wrist or hand, constant numbness or tingling in the affected area, or visible muscle wasting at the base of the thumb
• People with a known or suspected allergy to NAC (N-acetyl cysteine, a type of supplement)
• People currently taking certain medications that cannot be used alongside NAC, including some antibiotics or nitroglycerin (a heart medication)
• People who are currently breastfeeding, or people who have a history of kidney stones
• People who have a history of injury to the neck or upper part of the arm on the same side as the affected wrist
• People whose carpal tunnel syndrome developed as a result of pregnancy
• People who are unable to obtain a wrist splint worn at night due to financial reasons, such as lack of insurance or limited finances (confirm with trial site)
