Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 55 years old who are in good general health

  • People with no history of mental illness, such as anxiety, depression, phobia, or any other mental health condition that has been diagnosed by a mental health professional (this applies to the healthy participant group)
  • People who have been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (this applies to the anxious participant group, and having additional conditions such as depression, other anxiety disorders, or PTSD is allowed for this group)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study period
  • People in the healthy participant group who have previously been diagnosed with a mental illness — such as anxiety, depression, phobia, or any other psychological disorder — by a doctor or psychologist, or who have been prescribed medication for a mental health condition
  • People in the anxious participant group who have additional conditions that are not permitted, including bipolar disorder, psychosis, substance use disorder, neurological disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • People who are currently taking prescription medications for mental health conditions on a regular basis
