Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have signed a form agreeing to take part in the study
- You have been diagnosed with Normal Tension Glaucoma, which means your eye pressure has never been above 21 mmHg, your eye drainage angle is open, and there are specific signs of damage to the nerve fibres in your eye
- Your glaucoma is considered stable on your current eye medications, as confirmed by a glaucoma specialist
- You have a cataract that is significant enough to affect your vision and warrant treatment
Who may not be able to join:
- Your glaucoma was caused by a previous eye injury or eye inflammation (such as uveitis)
- You have a condition called exfoliation syndrome affecting your eyes
- You have a condition called pigment dispersion syndrome affecting your eyes
- You have previously had certain laser treatments to reduce eye pressure (transscleral or endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation)
- You have previously had any other type of surgery for glaucoma
- Your cataract was caused by an eye injury, or you were born with it
- The structures supporting your eye's natural lens are weak, for example due to Marfan syndrome or a similar condition
- You have previously had a detached retina
- You have previously had surgery inside the eye, such as vitrectomy or other retinal surgery
- You have the "wet" form of age-related macular degeneration
- You have diabetic retinopathy (eye damage caused by diabetes)
- You have previously had a corneal transplant or laser eye surgery to correct vision (such as LASIK)
- You have Fuchs' dystrophy or any other condition that affects the clarity of your cornea (the clear front surface of the eye), such as scarring
- You do not wish to take part in the study
- Your glaucoma is getting worse despite your current treatment
- You do not speak Finnish, Swedish, or English
- You have dementia
- You only have one eye that can see, and the vision in that eye is very poor (worse than 20/200) or you have lost central vision in that eye
