Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are pregnant with a single baby (not twins or more)
- People who have previously experienced depression related to pregnancy or the period just after birth
- People who are between 18 and 45 years old
Who may not be able to join:
- People experiencing moderate to severe depression that began during the current pregnancy
- People with serious mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, conditions involving psychosis, or severe eating disorders or obsessive-compulsive disorder requiring hospital care
- People who have previously attempted suicide without having had a depressive episode at that time
- People who have had, or currently have, a neurological condition such as migraines or epilepsy
- People with a serious physical illness
- People who have had, or currently have, cancer
- People with a history of blood clots in the veins, heart attack, stroke caused by a blood clot, or a clotting disorder, or those identified as having related risk factors following a clotting screen
- People who have had a blood clot in the leg or lungs during the current pregnancy
- People who have developed high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia during the current pregnancy
- People with pre-existing hardening of the arteries, or known heart and circulation risk factors such as diabetes or high blood pressure
- People with other medical reasons that would make oestrogen treatment unsuitable, such as serious liver problems or severe varicose veins (confirm with trial site)
- People currently taking psychiatric medications, except for short-term sleep support
- People who are not fluent in Danish, or who have significant vision or hearing difficulties
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 35
- People currently experiencing problems with alcohol or drug misuse
- People who experienced very heavy bleeding after delivery (more than 1,500 ml)
- People whose baby has been seriously ill or has died around the time of birth
