Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been assessed by an anaesthesia specialist and rated as having a general health status of Grade I, II, or III (meaning from healthy to having some serious but controlled medical conditions).
- People diagnosed with cancer in the right side of the colon (from the caecum up to the first third of the transverse colon), where the tumour has been assessed before surgery as being at a certain level of growth or spread (stage T2 to T4a, with or without lymph node involvement), and where the cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body.
- People who have given their informed consent to participate in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People aged over 85 years old.
- People whose cancer is at an early stage classified as T1 with no lymph node involvement (N0).
- People whose cancer has grown into nearby organs or structures, classified as T4b.
- People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) greater than 30.
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (distant metastasis), which is checked using CT scans of the chest and abdomen.
- People rated as anaesthesia health Grade IV (meaning they have severe, life-threatening medical conditions).
- People who have had another type of cancer within the last 5 years.
- People who need emergency surgery.
- People who currently have an infection requiring treatment.
- People who are pregnant.
- People who are currently using steroid medications taken throughout the body (systemic steroids).
- People with a history of familial adenomatous polyposis, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease (confirm with trial site, as the wording of this criterion may mean it is an exclusion or inclusion requirement).
