Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 years or older; women must be past menopause
- People who have been diagnosed with moderate chronic kidney disease (stage 3 or 4), with kidney function that has been stable for the past 3 months
- People who have high blood pressure that has not been fully controlled, with readings in a specific range (120–159 mmHg on the top number) taken on two separate days, and who have been on a stable blood pressure medication plan for at least 6 weeks
- People whose weight has stayed roughly the same (within 2 kg) over the past 3 months, and who are willing to keep their weight stable during the study. People taking or planning to start a certain type of diabetes/weight medication (GLP-1 receptor agonists) would need to have had a stable weight for at least 3 months before joining

Who may not be able to join:
- People whose kidney disease is advanced enough to require dialysis
- People with serious lung conditions, such as COPD, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, or asthma that is not well controlled
- People with a history of a collapsed lung (whether it happened on its own or from an injury that has not fully healed), or a burst eardrum that has not fully healed, or other eardrum conditions
- People with serious health conditions where life expectancy is less than 1 year
- People with a history of severe heart failure (where the heart is pumping at a significantly reduced level)
- People who have been hospitalised in the past month
- People with a high level of protein in their urine, above a specific threshold (confirm with trial site)
- People who currently smoke
- People who have taken immune-suppressing medications in the past 12 months (steroid use for gout may be acceptable, but steroids must not have been taken within 2 weeks of certain study tests)
- People with a known cancer diagnosis
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan, such as those with severe claustrophobia, certain implants or devices, or non-removable body piercings — though these individuals may still be able to participate in other parts of the study
- People whose use of illicit drugs or alcohol, in the opinion of the research team, would make it difficult to follow the study plan
