Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 12 and 25 years old
• You have been diagnosed with major depression, and that diagnosis was made within the last 12 months, with depression being your most pressing problem needing treatment
• Your depression is at least moderate in severity (as measured by specific rating scales) if you want to take part in the active treatment stage — if your depression scores are lower, you may still be able to take part in follow-up check-ins
• You are able to talk and communicate well enough to take part in talking-based therapy

Who may not be able to join:

• You have a personal history of manic or hypomanic episodes, psychosis, autism spectrum disorder, a developmental disability, an intellectual disability, a mental health condition caused by a neurological or other physical illness, or a current serious substance use problem
• You have previously received any treatment specifically for depression that lasted 4 weeks or longer, or you are currently taking antipsychotic, antidepressant, or mood-stabilising medication
• You have had a change in any mental health medication (including sleep, anxiety, or stimulant medications) in the past 6 weeks, or you have already completed 4 or more sessions of cognitive-behavioural therapy
• You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (confirm with trial site for further details on how this is handled during the study)
• No one will be turned away based on sex, gender, race, ethnicity, or living situation
