Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 18 and 65 years old
- People who have a tender or trigger point in the piriformis muscle (a muscle deep in the buttock), confirmed by a physical examination
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have limited hip movement on the side of the affected piriformis muscle — specifically, less than 45 degrees of hip bending forward, less than 5 degrees of rotating the hip inward, or less than 30 degrees of rotating the hip outward
- People who are unable to lie face-down (on their stomach)
- People who do not speak English
- People who are unable to attend 2 appointments within the same month
- People who currently have an active cancer diagnosis
- People who are pregnant
- People who have been diagnosed with lumbar radiculopathy (a nerve problem originating in the lower back)
- People who have a spinal condition called lumbar spondylolisthesis graded higher than grade 1 (where one spinal bone has slipped forward over another)
- People who have a structural spinal condition called a Pars Defect in the lower back
- People who are currently receiving massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, or osteopathic treatments during the study period
