  • You are an adult with moderate to severe depression (based on a standard depression rating scale score of 18 or above) and have had 3 or more depressive episodes in your lifetime.
  • OR you are an adult with moderate to severe depression (based on a standard depression rating scale score of 18 or above) and this is your first depressive episode.
  • OR you are an adult who has never experienced any signs of depression (to serve as a comparison group).

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are not registered with national health insurance.
  • You are under a legal protection order, such as being under curatorship or guardianship.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are unable to give your own consent to participate.
  • You are under 18 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (a combination of certain conditions affecting your waist size, blood fats, blood pressure, and blood sugar — confirm with trial site).
  • You have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • Your depression is considered mild (based on a standard rating scale score below 18).
  • You are currently taking antipsychotic medication.
  • You have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
  • You have a moderate to severe alcohol use disorder.
  • You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
  • You have been diagnosed with a persistent delusional disorder.
  • You have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
