Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are older than 18 years of age
• People diagnosed with a specific swallowing muscle disorder of the food pipe called "ineffective esophageal motility," identified using a standardised measurement system — this means that during a swallowing test, either 7 out of 10 swallows showed weak muscle contractions, or 5 out of 10 swallows showed completely failed muscle movement (confirm with trial site for exact measurement details)
• People who are having a specific type of anti-reflux surgery called a partial fundoplication (either 180° anterior or 270° posterior wrap) performed at Spital Limmattal
• People who have signed an informed consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are under 18 years of age
• People who are pregnant
• People whose food pipe muscle function tested as normal before surgery
• People who have been diagnosed with other specific swallowing muscle disorders, such as Nutcracker or Jackhammer esophagus
• People who have a hiatal hernia where more than 20% of the stomach has moved up into the chest
• People who have previously had surgery for reflux or surgery in the same area of the body (revisional surgery)
