Who might be able to join this trial:

  • The young person is between 13 and 18 years old (inclusive).
  • The young person and/or their parent or caregiver has expressed concern about depression or something similar (such as feeling very sad or low).
  • The young person's doctor or clinician agrees that depressive symptoms are something that needs to be treated.
  • The young person scored 22 or higher on a depression questionnaire (called the Mood and Feelings Questionnaire) at two separate appointments.
  • The young person is either new to the clinic (within the past 3 months) or has not received any treatment for at least 3 months.

Who may not be able to join:

  • The young person has known or strongly suspected symptoms of psychosis (such as hallucinations or delusions) that are ongoing, affect their daily life, and can be seen in their behaviour.
  • The young person has a serious substance use disorder, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, a severe eating disorder, or is considered by their clinician to be at immediate risk of suicide requiring hospitalisation.
  • The young person (or their guardian, if applicable) is unable to give informed consent to take part in the study for any reason.
  • The young person is currently enrolled in a Day Treatment programme.
