Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are over 18 years old
- You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgery to remove part of the left side of your colon or the upper part of your rectum for cancer, where the two ends of the bowel will be joined back together inside the abdomen
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- You are enrolled in the French social security system (including CMU)
Who may not be able to join:
- Your surgery is an emergency rather than a planned procedure
- You have rectal cancer that requires removal of the full surrounding tissue (total mesorectal excision) with a join made in the lower part of the pelvis
- Your colon cancer requires removal of most or all of the colon (for example, a right-sided removal extended to or beyond the splenic flexure)
- Your colon cancer requires removal of the middle (transverse) section of the colon
- Your colorectal cancer has come back after previous treatment
- Your cancer has spread to nearby organs and requires removal of multiple organs at once
- You have previously had part of your colon removed
- You need another organ (such as the liver) removed at the same time as your bowel surgery
- You have previously had radiotherapy to the pelvic area for a different condition (for example, prostate cancer)
- You have an inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- You have a known allergy to indocyanine green (a dye used in some medical procedures)
- You are pregnant
- You do not wish to take part or are unable to give your informed consent
- You are under a court-ordered guardianship or legal protection (confirm with trial site)
